(...) Ogromna sila jest potrzebna aby uzyskac szybkosc ponaddzwiekowa... Moc silnikow Arrow byla rowna mocy silnikow zdolnych poruszyc dwa statki transatlantyckie wielkosci "Queen Mary" (ponad 2 tys pasazerow). Przy szybkosci ponaddzwiekowej wystepuja ogromne przeciazenia i fizyczna sila pilota musi byc wspomagana przez mechanizmy wspomagania i kontroli. Mechanizmy tego typu,

Tremendous power is required to fly an aircraft at supersonic speed and the Arrow used as much power as that taken to drive two ocean liners, the size of the "Queen Mary". At supersonic speed, air loads on the control surfaces are extremely high and pilot physical strength must be supported by control mechanisms. "VILLA BRIARCREST" - DYREKTORSKA WILLA/ THE AVRO'S FORMER EXECUTIVE ESTATE
Salon laczyl sie poprzez duze przesuwane drzwi z pokojem bilardowym i wykwintnie zaopatrzonym barem.
Wiele znanych osob z kierownictwa Avro i swiata biznesu bywalo w tej willi; Sir Roy Dobson (Zalozyciel zakladow Avro w Kanadzie), Ksiaze Niderlandow Bernhard, C.D. Howe (Kanadyjski Minister Uzbrojenia) i wielu innych. I wlasnie "Villa Briarcrest" byla miejscem gdzie rankiem 20 Lutego 1959 roku dotarla do niego rzadowa wiadomosc o definitywnym przerwaniu prac nad samolotem Avro Arrow.
Pieknie zalesiona niegdys dzialka zostala przerzedzona, a w najblizszej okolicy wyroslo wiele wysokich apartamentowcow. Malo kto, z przechodniow mijajacych codziennie "Villa Briarcrest" wie o historii wiazacej sie z tym domem... Obecnym wlascicielem "Briarcrest" jest mala, aczkolwiek uznana firma architektoniczna "Domus Architects".
By 1953, if the Avro's President and General Manager, Crawford Gordon wanted to talk business, he could do so in a number of locations, but his favorite one was the "Villa Briarcrest", the company's private estate located at 1982 Islington Ave - south-west corner of Islington Ave and Dixon Rd in Toronto, a short 8 km drive from the former Avro Canada plant in Malton.
The Tudor-style house used to be very well maintain and it was beautiful; contained a huge living room with oak floors, wooden wall panels and balcony above the front door. Beside the stone fireplace along one wall was sliding panel door that led down into a recreation - pool room and well stocked bar. The house had five bedrooms, two full bathrooms, two washrooms and two car garage and air conditioning. The wooden grounds contained a tennis court - it was an ideal location for company's executive meetings and other corporate uses.
Many of the Avro's executives and company's guests stayed here through the years; Sir Roy Dobson (Avro's Chairman), Prince Bernhard of Netherlands and C.D. Howe (Canadian Minister of Defence) were among them. In 1958-59, the Avro's President and General Manager Crawford Gordon lived here for a few months after he separated from his wife, Mary... This is the place where Crawford Gordon received the news of the entire cancellation of the Avro Arrow's program in the morning of Friday 20, 1959. A couple of hours later all Avro's executives urgently gathered at this "Villa Briarcrest" to discussed the situation and figure out what to do - the atmosphere was "charged"... Canada was about to waste hundreds of millions dollars & loose the ultra-modern aviation technology along with an opportunity to earn incalculable world prestige - 14.000 workers of the Avro's plant were about to be laid off...
Today as of 2015, the "Villa Briarcrest" although from outside looks pretty much the same as it did during the 1950s isn't any more the "Company's Mansion". Basically, now its an office space for rent. In fact the west part of the house, included basement where use to be a bar and recreation area, has been rented to the Daycare. The once wooden-peaceful neighborhood became a popular area for development of high rise apartment towers. Almost no one who walks by this house, knows of its very interesting history and connections to the Canadian supersonic fighter, Avro Arrow. The memories of that sophisticated plane and people who created it become buried in the dust and debris of time... The current owner of the "Briarcrest" is a small, yet award winning architectural firm "Domus Architects".
