AVRO ARROW REPLICA, SEPT. 2013 - PRZEPROWADZKA/ ON THE MOVE
Sept. 22, 2013 - A replica of the Avro Arrow has been returned to Mississauga, the site where the legendary Canadian-designed jet fighter was developed in the late 1950s. The 26-metre replica jet was transported by convoy overnight from Toronto's Downsview Park/ Air Museum to the International Conference/ Expo Centre in Mississauga, close to the Pearson Airport, that is located just steps away from the former grounds of the Avro Canada plant. The aircraft had to be loaded onto three trailers equipped with specially created shipping cradles and supports. The resulting convoy had to travel with a Toronto police escort, much like when NASA's Space Shuttle Endeavour travelled through the streets of Los Angeles to its new home in 2012.The jet was moved almost fully intact, although some parts, including the replica's wing tips, rocket pod and nose gear had to be moved separately.
The Arrow fighter had been housed at the Canadian Air & Space Museum at Downsview Park, Toronto. But the park evicted the museum in September, 2011, to make way for an ice rink complex. So the replica is heading to a new home in a storage facility near Pearson Airport. The Avro Arrow replica was built by determined group of volunteers that included war veterans and aviation industry retirees who set to work re-creating the scrapped aircraft. Volunteers began work in 1998, and the full-scale model was completed in 2006. Its current value $3 mln.

TORONTO MALTON - LOTNISKO W LATACH '50/ AIRPORT in 50's
Zaklady lotnicze Avro Canada zlokalizowane byly tuz obok lotniska Toronto-Malton obslugujacego ruch pasazerski. Samoloty produkowane w Avro Arrow korzystaly z pasa startowego tego wlasnie lotniska. Warto spojrzec na mape i fotografie lotniska aby poczuc atmosfere z dawnych lat '50. Obecnie tereny te zajete sa przez glowne torontonskie lotnisko miedzynarodowe im. kanadyjskiego premiera Lestera Pearsona (Toronto Pearson International Airport)... Lotnisko posiada teraz dwa Terminale Pasazerskie T1 i T3 zbudowane na miejscu starych Terminali T1 i T2.
The Avro Canada plant was located just beside the Toronto-Malton Airport. All aircraft built at this plant used this airport's runway for its flights and technical tests. Its interesting to have a look at the airport's map and some old pictures to get the feeling of 50's. Currently, the grounds of the former Toronto-Malton Airport, after major redeveloping became the main airport for Toronto named - "Toronto Pearson International Airport"... Today, the airport has two Passenger Terminals T1 i T3 that were built on the sites of the older Terminal buildings, T1 i T2.

Avro Jetliner & Avro Arrow in Doc. Film - Story of two great planes & their designer, Jim Floyd
Glownym inzynierem i projektantem ponaddzwiekowego mysliwca Avro Arrow byl Jim Floyd. Ponizej znajduje sie link do ciekawego filmu dokumentalnego "Too Good to be True" ("Zbyt Dobre Aby Bylo Prawdziwe") z lat '90, w ktorym sam konstruktor, Jim Floyd opowiada o swoich doswiadczeniach z budowa i eksploatacja swoich dwoch kanadyjskich samolotow Avro Jetliner i Avro Arrow (Wersja Angielska).
Here is a documentary program that was aired on the Canadian television ("TV Ontario") in mid 90's under the title of "Too Good to be True". It's the story of the chief design engineer Jim Floyd and his two Canadian planes built at the Avro Canada plant: "Avro Jetliner", 1949 (the first passenger jet-powered plane in North America) and the "Avro Arrow", 1958 (the first supersonic fighter). Although both of those planes were world-beating aircraft of outstanding designs and specifications none of them succeed to get into regular production - both ended up in scrap. After that happened in late 50's, Jim Floyd went back to his native England to join the team of engineers working on the supersonic passenger aircraft "Concorde" (British-French join venture). However, he returned to Canada as a retiree in 1981 and as of 2015, he is living in the Greater Toronto area near the former Avro Canada company's grounds in Malton, Ontario.
The narrator of the presented documentary introduction is Elwy Yost, who beside being the television host (TV Ontario - "Saturday Night at the Movies"), also worked at the Avro Canada plant for several years in the Human Resources Dept...
